Typically, watch crowns are positioned on the right side, but innovative designers often defy conventions to create remarkable pieces. Here, I present a timepiece that blends Italian design aesthetics with Swiss manufacturing standards. This is a replica U-Boat Chimera watch, meticulously recreated 1:1 by skilled engineers who analyzed the authentic U-Boat model.
Detailed Case and Dial Features
The term "Chimera" refers to something extraordinary and almost unreal. Generally, watches are crafted to allow easy assembly and waterproofing, and the Chimera series by U-Boat achieves this through its distinctive design. The case is composed of two segments, secured by five screws, visible at 1:00, 3:00, 8:00, and 10:00, arranged asymmetrically. This unique detail is one of the reasons I admire this watch. The white cream sandwich dial features luminous black numerals and markers, facilitating nighttime readability. As a chronograph model, it includes a long, slender black second hand at the center, a sub-dial at 6:00 for minutes, and another at 12:00 for hours. The sub-dial at 3:00 displays seconds, while the date is indicated at 9:00, accompanied by the name of U-Boat's brilliant designer, Italo Fontana. The stainless steel bezel is impeccably polished. On the left, three distinctive buttons are located: the button at 10:00 resets the chronograph, while the one at 8:00 starts and stops it. The crown is used for setting the time and date.
Movement and Strap Compatibility
Encased within the Chimera's impressive exterior is an Asian 7750 automatic chronograph movement, visible through the transparent case back with its intricate engravings. This movement is favored in various replica models for its reliability and precision. The watch is paired with a brown genuine leather strap, which complements the cream white dial beautifully.
