Design and Aesthetic Appeal
I am captivated by this watch, with its alluring color and functional design. Produced by GR Factory, this timepiece is also crafted by Z Factory, both offering comparable quality that makes it hard to choose a favorite. GR Factory is known for its quick release of Patek Philippe models, often at a lower price than Z Factory. While the Patek Nautilus and Aquanaut are undoubtedly popular, the Patek Calatrava 5296 or the more intricate 5205 are essential additions to any collection. Previously, I discussed a rose gold 5296 from the Calatrava line by Z Factory, embodying a timeless design. Today, I present another Patek Philippe, the 5396, which initially seemed related to the Calatrava 5296, but I realized they are distinct. Crafted by GR Factory, this model is available in both rose gold and stainless steel, though the rose gold paired with a luxurious brown alligator leather strap is particularly striking.
Build Quality and Details
GR Factory has produced several complex Patek models, including the 5205R Moon Phase, which also boasts excellent craftsmanship. Featuring the classic Calatrava design, the rose gold case is finely polished, with matching rose gold hour markers and hands. The meticulous case finish is expected from high-quality replicas from renowned manufacturers. Notably, this model includes detailed engravings on the back of each lug, a feature often overlooked by lower-quality replicas. The case measures 38.5mm in diameter with a 12mm thickness. Interestingly, the description on TD TrustyTime's website mistakenly lists the dimensions as 40mm by 12mm, while the Z Factory version is correctly noted as 38.5mm by 12mm. Such discrepancies are not uncommon, as seen with some Rolex models described with incorrect steel types.
Movement and Features
The watch impresses with its genuine functions, adjustable via the crown and case buttons. The moon phase indicator, with its sandblasted finish, rotates monthly, matching the genuine article, and is adjustable through a button at 5 o'clock. The presence of a monthly moon phase indicator in a replica was unexpected. The week and month are displayed at 12 o'clock, adjustable by buttons at 10 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Thanks to the crystal back, the intricate movement is visible, showcasing accurate engravings on the plates and auto rotor. Both Z Factory and GR Factory utilize the Miyota 9015 as the base movement for this model.
Strap and Customization Options
I personally prefer the golden version of watches with such intricate features. The strap, although crafted from calf leather, is embossed with a crocodile pattern. For those seeking a more authentic touch, a genuine alligator leather band can be custom made at a reasonable price in our market.
