I've eagerly awaited a watch manufacturer capable of producing Panerai timepieces for enthusiasts like myself. Being a huge admirer of Panerai, I fell in love with the brand when I first encountered it in the local watch market. Its sizable dimensions, distinctive crown bridge, and functional dial design drew me in. However, an authentic Panerai entails a significant investment, so I only possess a few Panerai models. My initial Panerai was the PAM 111, which was also the first high-quality clone available in our market. Unfortunately, since the closure of the factory previously known for crafting the finest Panerai models, finding a top-tier option has become challenging. In 2021, sales of these timepieces saw a notable decline. Moreover, with the news that VS is unlikely to return, it seems their offerings, including the Omega Seamaster and Panerai, will no longer be available.
Emerging Players in the Market
On a positive note, some lesser-known manufacturers like HW and TTF are stepping up to produce Panerai watches. Although their advancement is gradual, I am optimistic they will introduce more models in 2022. The HW factory currently offers manual winding models such as PAM 005 and PAM 111, whereas TTF specializes in only two models, PAM 1312 and PAM 1314.
Design and Build Quality
The PAM 1314 boasts the iconic Luminor case, which features a brushed finish with a polished round bezel. Measuring 44mm in diameter and 16mm in thickness, it is somewhat thick. The curved lugs ensure a comfortable fit, and screws secure the straps. The solid case back showcases the classic Panerai OP Logo, with sanded engravings contrasting sharply with the surrounding finish. The white dial includes a small seconds subdial positioned at 9 o’clock. Its sandwiched structure mirrors that of the genuine model, while the luminous material beneath appears slightly grey, differing from the darker black seen in the "PANERAI" and "Automatic" printings. The date is easily legible thanks to the black font on a white background.
Personal Impressions
Personally, the aesthetics of this Panerai do not appeal to me. The combination of a white dial with silver-grey lume and a brown leather strap imparts a somewhat offbeat appearance. Although the color scheme and dial design lend a modern touch, it lacks the classic essence of earlier Panerai models like the PAM 312.
