Current Market Challenges
The industry is facing significant challenges as major factories have closed and show little intention of reopening. Ordering timeframes from the remaining factories have extended considerably, especially for shipping watches to the United States and Europe. The complexity of the situation is daunting, and it sometimes leads me to consider stepping back from the business, though I will continue to update my blog when time permits. Despite these hurdles, a few factories have shown resilience, with EW being a noteworthy example this year.
Emergence of EW Factory
Until 2021, EW was relatively unknown to me. Previously, top-quality replica Rolex watches were predominantly crafted by four main players: ARF, GMF, Noob, and VSF. Enthusiasts consistently sought the best replicas, often overlooking lesser-known manufacturers. However, with the closure of several major factories, attention shifted to smaller producers like EW, who capitalized on the opportunity.
Design and Build Quality
This Rolex Day-Date model by EW debuted in April 2020. At that time, EW utilized 316F stainless steel instead of 904L, but the watch features genuine yellow gold plating, albeit with a thin coating. Initially, I didn't pay much attention to this Day-Date model, yet its yellow gold and green color scheme recently caught my eye.
The watch measures 36mm in diameter and has a thickness of 12mm. It showcases yellow gold plating on the case, fluted bezel, and bracelet. The dial features a gradient green, transitioning from a lighter center to a darker edge. Each hour marker is a square with a golden frame, adorned with diamonds. These stones, although not authentic diamonds, are finely cut crystals placed by skilled craftsmen. If genuine diamonds are desired, some market vendors can provide and install them in the hour markers.
Movement and Features
The replica houses an Asian clone 3255 movement, an automatic mechanism based on a Chinese automatic movement. EW has applied simple decorative enhancements to the movement plates and rotor, mimicking the authentic Rolex 3255 Calibre. This approach results in a highly cost-effective clone movement, maintaining a strong price-performance ratio similar to other offerings from EW factory.
