Bronze and skull motifs have become significant in recent watchmaking trends, with numerous Swiss brands incorporating these elements into their designs. My blog has previously covered watches crafted from bronze, as well as skull-themed pieces like the Bell Ross skull models. Today, I am introducing a watch that combines both elements: a Bell Ross BR01 skull replica featuring a bronze construction, created by the BRS Factory. This is my first encounter with this factory, but its name suggests a focus on producing Bell Ross replicas.
Design and Build Quality
Though not the inaugural Bell Ross replica to use bronze, this model is the first to marry bronze with a skull dial. The watch features a bronze case complemented by a strap that matches the vintage aesthetic of the case. The replica has a case diameter of 46mm and a thickness of 7.5mm, excluding the protruding skull on the dial. Crafted from authentic bronze, the case will develop a distinctive patina over time, a feature that appeals to enthusiasts of military-style bronze watches. The original bronzo Panerai replica PAM 382 by VS Factory remains a classic.
Movement and Features
The dial, shaped like a skull, glows prominently in the dark thanks to Swiss BGW9 lume, as confirmed by the BRS Factory. While strong lume is common in Chinese-manufactured homage diver's watches, the duration of its luminosity is crucial. The BRS Factory has previously produced skull-themed Bell Ross models, and the detailing—the eyes and teeth—are exactly replicated from the genuine BR01 Skull. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the skull dial.
Comfort and Wearability
The watch has a solid titanium case back, making it suitable for wear even for those with bronze allergies. The strap pairs nicely with the watch, featuring a black PVD-coated buckle. A bronze buckle would enhance the overall aesthetic harmony.
Value Assessment
Positioned in the mid to upper range of quality, the replica from BRS Factory is affordably priced. Considering the use of bronze, AR-coated sapphire crystal, and BGW9 superlume, it offers good value. However, it's advisable to avoid water exposure, such as swimming or hand washing, due to the unique square case and skull-shaped crystal. I haven't tested its water resistance, so it's better to err on the side of caution.
